For so many years of my life my self-discipline was terrible.
This lack of self-discipline kept me running around in
circles, procrastinating like a king, and always chasing the
'latest greatest idea'.
Have you ever been 'there'?
I'm glad I'm not 'there' anymore and I work daily on bringing
more self-discipline into my life.
Here's the question.
Whenever you read a great success story, from Tiger Woods,
Oprah, Spielberg, Frank McKinney, to famous generals and
more, you always here 'this' mentioned.
"They brought great discipline to their work."
What do the most successful people in the world 'have' that
allow them to bring more discipline into their lives than
the rest of the population?
There might be 10 answers. Probably more.
I'm going to focus today on what I believe is the MOST
IMPORTANT in order to bring more self-discipline into your
life.
If you look at the globe, you see many things.
You see millions of people unhappy with their careers, you
see millions of people looking for meaning in their lives,
and you see millions of people that have accepted the status
quo in their lives.
If that's the choice people make, great, I know you're
looking for more in your life though.
How do we make self-discipline much easier for ourselves?
How do we improve our discipline 1% each day?
What do the 'greats' do that other's don't?
The mass of people lead visionless lives.
Read this again.
The mass of people lead visionless lives.
I did as well for a long time. A long time.
Remember, what was written thousands of years ago.
"Where there is no vision, the people perish."
The word 'perish' in the past was translated to 'throw off
constraints."
"Mike, what does that exactly mean?"
In means that when we don't have a VISION for our lives, we
throw off self-discipline, self-control, and order. (I'd read
this 2x)
You see, without a VISION we replay the limitations and
negative recurring patterns of our past.
Without using our IMAGINATION to build the better you, we use
the lack in our past to keep us on a fear driven merry go
round.
No fun. Not at all.
You, I, us, WE must do the inner work.
I don't care what your inner critic has to say. You were
BORN with unique gifts, purposes, and talents.
You were born to lead.
You were born to fulfill a GREAT VISION.
Maybe it's being a great parent, a great business person, or
great entertainer. It doesn't matter.
Build the vision for your life. It doesn't have to be
perfect. Let it develop. Cultivate it.
Build it. Hold it. Pursue it.
The greatest gift in pursuing your vision, is WHO you become
in the process. (money is important, though in itself it will
never give you meaning.)
Be the master artist in your life. Create a living, breathing
masterpiece called your life.
Start with a bright, clear vision. Watch discipline and order
enter your life in a greater way.
I believe in -you-. The thousands of other people reading
this right now BELIEVE IN YOU.
(Group high five)
Your greatest days are ahead of you and can't wait to see you
too.
Build your vision 1% today.
Love Ya! You're The Best!

Michael

thanks Mike - I needed this today!
Wow. Everyday I receive emails from you that are more inspirational than the last one. You're an awesome coach!
I enjoy your daily motivators and this one hit home!
Mike,
Thank you for all your encouragement!
You're great.
Whenever I have the "self discipline" to stop and take a breath;READ your emails, I learn more about myself.
Thank you for your periodic substantive messages. Repitition is the "mother of learning". I am.
Please offer more practical ways of developing discipline. Yes, we understand the need. We need the map.
Yeah, Mike. For most of my life my time was controlled by others. I was at the beck and call of others. As a prison warden, a lawyers and finally as a judge, my time was controlled by others. Guess I drove my staff crazy since my arrival at my desk was usually at half past dark (as my sons say). Now that I'm retired it still starts at half past dark but have had to move my rising back to 4:00 AM to get ahead of things. I may have had two strokes and have that aneurysm on the brain but as I tell my wife and sons, I'll have plenty of time to sleep when I'm dead. But for the time being I'm alive and feel I have so much to give and live for.
Thanks, Mike. I try to emulate your approach with the people I meet and who seem to keep in touch with me.
God Bless
You are a great teacher, thank you
Thanks Mike,
Great topic and very timely with the new year.
Always inspiring as a terrific coach should be. Thanks
Mike, Thank you for this blog. Self discipline and procrastination seem to be the biggest enemies to success. What a marvelous reminder.
Thank you very much for your motivational e mails..It helps me a lot everyday..thanks..thanks.
You always have the knack of hitting the nail by its head. You really have defined the meaning of this biblical passage, that most of us really don't understand and can't relate to, unless explained. Thank you.
Keep on and more power to you.
Mike,
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Your post today reminds of the first of your CD's I heard, (which was when Jim Rohn was on your radio show) and a quote which rings so very true in every person's life.
The quote?
"Discipline weighs Ounces, Regret weighs Tons."
And it all falls in line with "your generational story" of a couple of days ago.
It seems as if I had to have enough weight of the regrets in my life to install the discipline needed to do what would turn my "daydreams" into actual goals and a commitment to accomplish my greatness!
Again, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Sincerely,
Roger
Thank you Mike, perfect timing!
Spot on Mike, i have a list of things i want to do i 2008 and through your emails, i receice the push and encouragement that, i think we all need to make it happen. Thankyou very much and happy new year from down under
Mike, thanks for giving something I needed today. I almost did not come to your blog because of information overload, but decided to see what you had to say today. Again, I am impressed. It reminded me of some things I have learned and forgotten. Just a bad case of procrastination. One of the 10%,(Yes,10%) ways of changing my self discipline.
Thanks again, Mike.
I really believe this ...that it all begins with a clear vision.
Thank you for the daily reinforcement ...and thank you for reminding us not to listen to our inner self critic!
“Where there is no vision, the people perish.†I think this was a quote from the book of Soloman. Very true, but have you ever thought deeply why people often don't have a vision? Has it been bashed out of them? Is there a lack of self-confidence? How do we gather together whatever talents we have, in whatever amount, and set out to make our very small improvement in the world?
Mike,
On the money Mike.
Before Christmas I asked my higher power how can I get Self Discipline and I was told I had to practice it, thanks for the reminder.
Mike, what a way to start 2008! Thanx, I needed that:)
Mike thank you so much for the wealth of knowledge that you keep pouring into my spirit. I love your insight, it's always clear and concise. Well received. Happy New Year.
Mike, thanks a lot, I'm going to start with my 1% of today, thats it's start to define my Vision.
God bless you
Regards from Mexico

Mike,
I get dozens of junk email a day, and I am ashamed to say that I haven't taken the time to read your until a couple of weeks ago. I guess I was drawn to you at a time in my life when I really needed you. Thank you for your blog. It's wonderful! I will be sharing it with others!!!
Meagan, Idaho
It only takes a single thought to move the world; let that be love!
Dear Mike,
You are a great motivator. Your newsletters are so uplifting and encouraging. Thank you very much.
Yours Sincerely,
Anthony.
Wow!
Perfect timing! I need it this today.
Thanks
I would add passion to the mix.
I was just talking to my business coach today, and he brought this up as vital to staying linked to what we need to do.
"Vision" is actually what we came to decide this "passion" is.
Spot on!
Hi...
I'm smiling about this topic -- it is so true for me at the moment! I agree with what you say about vision being imperative... I also wonder if the lack of self discipline can be attributed in some respects to feelings of being overwhelmed and not quite sure where to get started and what follows what. When I'm feeling really overwhelmed, you know when one thing challenges you after another, part of me shuts down and kinda screams out "whaaaa!" and that's when I experience my worst times of completely and utterly no self-discipline!

You must dream it...before you can achieve it! I love the blog Mike. You always speak directly to me
Hi Mike
I believe talent will get you anywhere Lack of discipline
will get you nowhere
The key has got to be discipline
Thankyou Colin
Keep it coming! Yes, I agree, it should begin from the inside! God bless you all the more.
Mike,
I'm really hard on myself. I work a 40 hour week, then come home and feel I have lack of self-discipline to work on getting my "vision" to come to pass. I'm motivated, but also frustrated because I can't "see" how the transition from my 40-hour J-O-B (just above broke)as a paralegal to making enough money speaking and writing to do that full-time. I'm determined to make things happen this year! I love your encouragemet and your monthly interviews. I devour them as soon as I get them in the mail. Keep up the GREAT work!
I really feel inspired when I read your posts. Thank you for always pointing "up" in a sometimes "down" vision.
"Discipline" is the definition of success , Thanks for reminding me.
WOW! What a great message! Keep them coming! THANK YOU!
I am truly inspired by your posts. Please write about pracical ways on how best one can bring discipline in life. Thank you very much.
Great. Nicely put.
Murthy
Mike,
You are consistently right on point with your message and your timing is great too! That's why you are my coach.

Thanks. Great thoughts!
Mike I have been getting e-mail from you for a long time and in the past like all the junk I got I just deleted most of it but for about 3 months now I started to read your wonderful e-mails and I can't thank you enough for being consistant in putting your words out there. I know now it is all good stuff. You really hit the nail on the head today!
Hi Mike,
Thanks for the message.
I agree with your valuable points and the basic thing is to bring a change in your situation which is really painful and that is what makes many people to stop from progressing to better level.
It is true as you have mentioned - “Where there is no vision, the people perish.â€
Regards,
Francis
Thanks Mike, you are always so inspiring and right in your choice of words, welll done.
I will never thank you enough... have a blessed year 2008!
Hey mike thanks. My brother and I were talking last night about how to be more self disciplined in our lives. Just like they say, " When the student is ready the teacher will come".
Thanks again, love this stuff.
Shawn

This one hit the target point blank. It's funny though since I decided this year its all about being positive and emitting positive vibes. I need to take control
Thanks Mike!!
Thanks a lot Mike
This is really awesome.
May I ask for your consent to forward this to friends and loved ones?
I do not want to be a dead sea.
Hi Mike
I just read 'why self discipline is tough'and that was really a home brainer for me....and reading your testimonies reminded me of myself..thanks for the enlightenment and i will be looking forward to reading your mails every day...very inspiritional
I have adopted the principal of diong something each day to improve myself 1%, its a small step but has had great impact. I also like the idea of only visiting my email inbox one time during the day, it has freed up so much of my time its incredible!
Thank you Mike. I needed your discipline suggestions/reminders to assist me with the discipline I sometimes lack. Keep up the great work you are doing and have an awesome day Mike!
I really needed this today! you are a great coach! We all need to be more positive ! Thanks you are Great!! Trish
Thanks for your words of wisdom!
Procrastination cna really destroy a persons self worth!
There are so many people in this rut,and its through words of wisdom from the Bible and you that we can over come this "monster"!
Mike,
Just got done reading another piece on working TOWARDS something instead of working to GET AWAY from something. So, I have to set a GOAL. To have a goal, I have to start imagining, and envisioning. Got it...thanks for the reinforcement.
This post is very important. I am going to put is in priority, to read it often. Sometimes we don't realize how we can impact others.
It is so true!
Peace, Success, Happiness
You have hit the mark for me with Self Discipline! This is an excellent read and so worthy of putting into focus and daily action.....Thank you Mike for all your inspirations....very best wishes for 2008.
I just read a great book titled "The Now Habit" which discusses procrastination and work-alcoholics. Being a great procrastonator, this book helped me put some things in place to feel like I have gotten something accomplished. Check it out. I receive nothing from this--just recommending something that helped me.
Thanks mike, my beloved coach for the great inspirations given to me.

Asit Joshi
Thanks. I need to hear this many, many times. I need to be reminded. It needs to be reinforced in my mind. Thanks.
Thank you Mike,
your daily messages are really a coaching device all by itself.
You don't teach rocketscience - you teach down-to-earth truth and you continuously push us to implement and use it - what it is all about!
Keep doing your job,
all the best

At 19 - my life has been put into completely different paths - vision, self-discipline, PMA, all that is mine. Self-development is the biggest thing there can ever be.
I Agree with Sheri

Thank you Mike for your encouragement. You teach sound wisdom - by implementing your teaching my journey is guaranteed to be a success.
Blessings,

I needed this today at well. I have a lot of responsibilities and people relying on me, and realize that my discipline needs to get rock hard. As alwyays, thank your Mike.
Hey Mike, I have been reading almost all of your mails and they all carry important messages. You have kept me motivated and have actually spurred me on to do something meaningful with my life. Thanks a million.
Regards
Ravindra
Thanks Mike this is so relevant for me. At the weekend I started a detox plan. My motivation was partly to do the inner cleanse 'thing' but most of all the biggest motivating force has been the reason to build my business [I'm an independent distributor for products which include this detox plan].
What I also realised was, though, that what I really need and have wanted for a while is to step up with my self discipline - my body, mind, and soul have just got fed-up with the instant gratification thing!
How to be more disciplined? well, I would suggest firstly desire to be, and hold that intention. Get the diary out and make appointments with self to do one task each day that has been put off or one task each day towards a new project [setting up a business is always good in my book!] Then take that action and notice how good you feel at the end of the week. A fantastic book for building self-discipline is:
"The Motivated Mind" by Michael Jason Gracia
cheers!
Carole
Mike thanks
This is a great way to start the New Year.
They that strive after the championship are disciplined in all things. Thank you Mike for your encouragement. I exhort you today to stay the course.
