What Stops People

by Mike Litman

We’re on the march to correct an INJUSTICE, you in?

Good.

Onward.

If you’ve been beaten up a bit in the past and didn’t get the
encouragement you needed, you might be in the hooks of this
‘consequence’.

Many people bring feelings of inferiority from their past
into their present day and it distorts their vision of
what’s possible today.

“Mike, if we bring these feelings of inferiority into our
present, where do we we hold these feelings?”

Great question amigo.

Our lives in many cases are dictated by our SELF IMAGE.

The invisible picture we hold of ourselves in our mind.

What too many of us have done is allow our past beliefs of
inadequacy and inferiority to stay in our present day SELF
IMAGE.

Our self image is the ‘mental box’ that defines the type of
results we achieve.

If we see ourselves as a victim, we bring those results
into our lives.

If we see ourselves making no more than $50k a year, that’s
what we’ll make.

If we see ourselves as a loser, then we’ll find ways to
sabotage ourselves.

When our self image is low, our self esteem is low.

“Mike, what is another effect of a defeating self image?”

Another good question.

When our self image isn’t one of a WINNER, a CHAMPION, we
don’t believe we’re worthy and deserving of the best life
has to offer.

This is a very unfortunate consequence.

I’ve had worthy and deserving challenges as I’m sure you
might have had as well.

Too many people are believing in a DISTORTED image of
themselves.

We are acting FROM a picture that isn’t the greatest you.

What makes Tom Brady, Tiger Woods, Oprah, and Michael
Jordan so successful?

Yes they’ve developed the WINNER’S IMAGE.

Yes, YOU can to.

Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick said:

“Hold a picture of yourself long and steadily enough in
your mind’s eye and you will be drawn toward it. Picture
yourself vividly as defeated and that alone will make
victory impossible. Picture yourself vividly as winning and
that alone will contribute immeasurably to success.

Great living starts with a picture held in your imagination
of what you would like to do or be.”

It’s much tougher to believe in yourself if you carry
around an inadequate self image of yourself.

Take Dr. Harry Emerson Fosdick’s advice.

Spend 60 seconds a day SEEING the best you.

We were created to be winners. Champions. All stars in the
art of living.

Yes, many people have taken in mental mud that’s hurt them.
It’s time to release the old and bring in the new, the greatest YOU.

I believe in your potential. I SEE you becoming a master in
confident living.

I SEE you smiling more, laughing more, loving more.

The GREAT Dr. Norman Vincent Peale said, “If you love life,
life will love you back.”

Live today.

Love Ya! You’re The Best!

Your Coach,

Michael

I am half way thru reading THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING by Dr. Norman Vincent Peale. Your quote made me smile. His power in this book to direct us to self fulfillment is awesome as are YOU! Great stuff!

Ron Silver January 15, 2008 at 2:16 pm

Thank you, Mike. That was a good insight to what might hold some people back. My father always said don’t fear failure, and don’t fear success. I got caught up in the fear of both at a young age and continually sabotaged myself.I would draw up some phony excuse as to why it wasn’t going to work, whatever it was. It still looms over my head after all this time. Thank you Ron Silver.

Thank You ever so much Mike, I swear that you must have had a secret window into my mind. It hit the nail right on the head for me right now. It is so real what it takes for the winners to win. Thank You again, Pat Graeff

HI

My note: Some of my programming

I know that I am beautiful, loveable and capable of being the best person I can be.

I love myself the way I am but still I want to grow.

I turn every disadvantage into a positive potential.

It is not went wrong but what I choose to do about it.

This is how my late husband and I chose to create a Loving Life.

Keep up the good work. I will pass your work on.

Love you
Elizabeth

I have a habit each night of going over in my mind a vision of what I will look like and say when I give my speech the day that I accept the highest awards achieved in my organization. I also learned from another great speaker that you can go on a mental fast….which means for 30 days…get away from news, tv, all the negative stuff and poor positive literature and programs in. He also taught me to have a clear vision of me going to the mailbox and opening up the envelope with a check for the amount I most want to achieve written on it along with what type of person I had to become to get there….powerful stuff! You must first “see it” before you can achieve it!

When it seems you can’t pull yourself out of another hole, setback, or heartbreak; I have to turn it all over to the Lord. I need his reasurring hand, to lift me, and guide me on my way.

Hi Mike, that’s really great piece of advice, I guess sometimes in our lives, we have lost track of the real things in life and just try to make do with what we got. I guess its the way we were brought up. But thanks to you, live will never be the same anymore! Thanks again.
“We can forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.”

I had my truck repossessed on Sunday. That does not help my self-image. What you have sent us today is truly a timely blessing. I am glad God steered me in your direction. You help. My problems are in God’s hands, and I know that I am a winner, and that if God be for me, who can be against me. It takes time to get a good picture of yourself, always refining. If life knocks you down, the winner gets back up. I am on the way back up!

Cori January 15, 2008 at 10:00 pm

Thanks Mike! I totally agree with you. I have been taking the time for some meditation and find when I smile during meditation my goals and desires seem to appear much quicker. Hmmm…food for thought!
You’re a blessing!

What a wonderful series of articles “Trying to breathe life” into people’s self esteem. I have been reading your articles and even my teenage sons are listening to your mp3s and read your book “Conversations with Millionaires”. My 10 year old daughter can recognise your voice!

Keep up the good work. I sent you an email and JEN has replied me. He said he has passed on my email to you. Hope to hear from you as soon as you can.

God bless your “MISSION” in briging the best out of people this year.

Mike

Just before moving out of your blog, I noticed the “Tagline” under your Name on the top of this page which reads “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going”. How true that is really Mike!” After sending my previous blog I noticed a spellcheck in the last line- briging [shoud have been bringing]. That’s OK.

The key in life is “NOBODY GOT it right the first time round”. All the major business ventures, companies, entrepreneurial ventures first began somewhere – quite often in very unusual places and very humbly and haphazardly. We can never get all the right people, all the funding, the best office, the perfect location all on a “Silver platter” right in front of us. NO. We got to start somewhere before our BRIGHT IDEA gets outdated and surely we can get it perfect and build on it over time. All the necessarily ingredients will “FLOW IN” step by step to realise our dream one day!

That is the difference between “Efficiency” and “EFFECTIVENESS”. Keep going Mike. You are the BEST TOO!

Jeanne May January 15, 2008 at 11:01 pm

Michael hello…

Thanks again for a truly inspiring message… developing a winner’s image isn’t always easy… but… it is never impossible. Having a winner’s image is a habit you can form… like every other habit! So why not develop good, positive and empowering habits?

Hi Mike, This week I have woken up a different person each day by reminding myself that I am a person of value, a stong independent person who stands in her own light. Every day i have attracted more motivational tips from emails and other people who believe in me. When I tidied up my office I found a piece of paper with this written on it. The 3 A’s. ANTICIPATE the opportunities, become AWARE that they are there, the ACT on them before any good change will come about. Every day I have been following these 3 A’s and it is amazing how inspired and motivated I have begun.

Cheers Charyn

Thank you,Mike. You have shown the problem. Now I can see what I have become and its cause;that is, the cause of low self-esteem.I believe that the solution is easier now for a better life.NOW I can see what I have been doing against myself.

kim January 16, 2008 at 2:38 am

Im going through a really dark time at the moment and my self image has been low but your words help more than you could know . Thanks Kim

Rod January 16, 2008 at 4:14 am

Thanks Mike
I’ve heard it before but we all need regular reminders that our lives are a self fulfiling prophecy.
Kind regards Rod

Steve January 16, 2008 at 5:27 am

Great rhetoric Mike, but what about those who’s self-image is so negative they won’t have a clue how to “Hold a picture of yourself long and steadily enough in
your mind’s eye and you will be drawn toward it….” if all they know is self defeat.

Ken Bryant January 16, 2008 at 7:53 am

I also love your tag line under your name: “You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going”. I also am one to want everything “just so” before I take action and I’m beginning to see how pointless and useless this is. Taking action appears to be the key. I’m still trying to peel back those layers of the onion that prevent me from doing that, but I’m a firm believer in acknowleding the issue is more than half the battle.

Thanks for your motivation and encouragement. Keep up the great work.

We used to call it “the negative MFTP effect [mother, father, teacher, preacher, where negative comments or statements made by authority figures has a lasting effect on the individuals self image. Don’t let ANYONE steal your dreams…. and to Steve- persistence some of the greatest acomplishments are made by those who have tasted defeat, and overcome it…Lincoln, Edison,Ghandi, Mandella….. Never give up!!!!

Beth Landrum January 16, 2008 at 8:33 am

I loved this writting. I talk with women daily about their lives and this is a topic that will come up. I often tell them that I wish they could see theirselves thru my eyes. We seem to struggle in one area or another on realizing just how much we can accomplish.Just showing up and being a part of life is sometimes all it takes to get changes happening.
Sweet Blessings,
Beth

Evan January 16, 2008 at 9:14 am

Mike, Thank you very much. I have to say that you have hit the nail on the head again. I’ve started to focus on myself and the thoughts and images I have generated. No wonder I’ve felt stuck and spinning my wheels. Its time to take control of those negative images that have been ingrained for years, and convert the to positive ones.

Walter Paul Bebirian January 16, 2008 at 12:19 pm

MIke – Everything that you said here is so true – there is another little book that I have begun reading recently which deals with the greatness in each an every individual and how to get in touch with that – “The Science of Being Great” by Wallace D. Wattles – I hope we all get in touch with out greatness!

thank you!

Walter

Liza January 16, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Kudos,

I do not own a TV and don’t listen to or read the news. Oh yes my homepage does give me some unwanted headlines but without emotion. For the past 2 days I was visiting friends at the lake, just to get a way, I thought. The TV was on almost non stop and the NEWS was a favorite in their home. I feel like I need to smudge and take a bath and cleanse before begining to debrief.

How sweet your reminder of a deer friend of my mom’s words are. Norman Vincent Peale was instrimental in my upbringing, what a sweet soul with so much wisdom and light. With that being said, what are the best ways to uncover the hidden beliefs about self? The ones we don’t know are there that sabotage us just the same.

Thank you,
