What Halts People’s Progress

by Mike Litman

“I feel lousy way too often.”

“Things don’t usually work out for me.”

“I always seem to screw things up eventually.”

This is the self-talk for way, way, too many people and it robs,
steals us of our happiness and fulfillment.

Let me share one idea with you today. Just one.

***Become AWARE of negative recurring thought patterns that
sabotage and halt your progress.

“Mike, where do some of these negative recurring thoughts come
from?”

Good question.

I don’t have all the answers, though let me share with you an
idea.

Be on the watch for negative GENERATIONAL habits and mindsets
that have rubbed off on you. (many times you don’t even realize
it)

Selfishness
Depression
Lack of enthusiasm
Negativity
Victim mentality

Most people don’t realize how powerful their environment is
throughout their life.

Bring more SELF AWARENESS into your life.

Lift your thoughts. Start thinking more positively about
yourself and what you can accomplish.

Negative generational habits that you’ve accepted limit your
growth and accomplishments. You can break them and experience
new levels of fulfillment, self respect, and success.

Seek to become a GENERATIONAL SUCCESS. Seek to pass on a great
mindset to your kids and their kids.

Tell yourself daily that you’re a great person, that GREAT
things are about to happen for you.

Start expecting success, every day. In every part of your lives.

Sometimes we can think we’re positive, though our core mindset
is negative. We don’t truly expect to win.

See yourself in your mind SUCCEEDING now.

Stop letting your memory hold you back. Start using your
imagination to break past negative programming.

Start enjoying life more. Increase your enthusiasm for living.

Our mental attitude directs our lives.

Let’s keep improving each day and seek to be the best we can be,
you in?

Love Ya! You’re The Best!

Your Coach,

Michael

Michael,

I am in the investment business. The first halve of last year was good the second halve was bad. We all know what is going on this year. I find myself in a good mood when accounts are moving up and in a bad mood when accounts decline.

My two drugs of choice are:

1. I run five miles a day; endorphines are for real.

2. Your positive messages are so much appreciated; the fact is there have been many times that your articles have made an immediate impact on my attitude. Today was one of them..

Thank-You,

Jeffery S Spaulding, CFP

Mike – just to let you know, as I’m sure millions have already, how your little blogs seem to hit the spot so often!!!

Mike,

Thanks for the words and this is something that I have struggled with for years and still do. Not quite sure how to get rid of it!

I don’t know if you remember me, I met you in Atlanta, GA probably in 2002-2003 when your book first came out, and I bought it at a PPL meeting at a resturant. Anyway, thanks again and congrats on your little one, they are so much fun!

Hello,

So true :-)

We can get stuck in a negative mentality and walk around thinking thoughts that only keep us stuck and in a bubble.

We sometimes believe the negative more than the positive and we get what we believe and focus on…

So think good and be positive:-)

Yes, we need more GENERATIONAL SUCCESSES and I choose to become one, to help myself and someone else improve their life.

Great Coach

I know all about what you are saying…I have to read good things I have written about myself everyday…I even have inspirational phrases on my mirror in the bathroom & on the window where I do dishes and on the refrigerator door. I also make sure that when I go to bed my vision is of me reaching one of my goals.

I believe in the concept that you get what you expect and it has been proven over and over in my life and the people’s lives around. I keep telling the people close to me that very thing and when I see the things they have voiced in a negative way come to pass, I try so hard not to say I told you so, but I do have to give them “the look.” When they draw the negative things to them, I tell them that they need to really look at how powerful they are and to turn that around the other direction. I keep believing they will “get it” someday :) !

Mike, You are great. How come you write such amazing articles on such heart warming topics. But tell me one thing. Most of know and understand that we are not itlizing even 25% of our talents and the inner self. Even then, why people dont take action to change their lives? Why don’t people move out of the comfort zone. Why dont people always need a BOSS to work. Can you please explain?

John Stockwell March 14, 2008 at 11:21 pm

Selfishness, Depression, Lack of enthusiasm
Negativity, Victim mentality

All are comfy spin cycles, or habits, or blind spots, or results, used as self-protection from the risk of creating new results by making changes.

Penny Dablin March 15, 2008 at 12:22 am

Thanks Mike

Reading your blog always gives me a lift. Lots of wisdom here.

And it’s not only the negative thinking that’s generational – I find I also have an inner need to ‘be a good girl’ that I took on as a kid. This stops me taking risks and makes me look to others for their advice and approval all the time before I’ll take action. And that definitely stops me moving forward.

Always look forward to reading you

Penny

It is true what you say.
I read this idea that we put off our worry time till 9 pm each day.
Every time we get a worry we will put it off and tell our brain!
Try!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is just the best way to go for a great life. A book I love is “Reinvent Yourself 7 Steps To a Fresh New You” by Fiona Harrold who is said to be the UK’s top Life Coach.

A confidence makeover can be a great part of this and Mike, you have just given us the tools to do this – many thanks.

To Geraldine and any one else feeling so lonely after divorce please be encouraged to know that it does get better; much much better – from day one.

Every blessing
Carole

Laura March 15, 2008 at 4:50 am

Thanks Mike,
Good info as usual.
I can partially answer your question for you about where our thoughts come from. Our thoughts come from our beliefs about the way things are or should be…. The problem is that some of our beliefs are subconscious and so that makes it difficult, but not impossible to change them.
Just another way of looking at things!

Keep up the good work- the world needs people like you!

Great advice Mike. You’re right about generational negativity. I cut the ties with some of my relatives because of their cut-throat back-stabbing ways. The only time I get really upset is when I dwell on how they back stabbed me. I truly do need to get rid of these thoughts.

Pamela March 15, 2008 at 6:15 am

I do not know when, but one thing I know:
I will make it.
I WILL MAKE IT.

Hi everyone, I have been working on the negative self talk. I have been making note of when I feel bad emotionally it is because of my negative self talk. I try to stop the thoughts and make a list of things that I like about myself and things I am grateful for in my life. A graditute list really helps me stay focused on all the good that really is in my life. Another thing that really helps is to volunteer your time to others.
I am making a second trip to New Orleans and doing work down there. There has never been a more rewarding experience than that first trip. I was never happier. So I strongly encourage that you find something that you can be of service to in your community. It is life changing and the cheapest antidepressant therapy in the world with no unwanted side effects. Thanks Mike for all your good work that is helping so many of us.

guy March 15, 2008 at 8:20 am

Remember it takes 21 days for an activity to become a habit-that can be good or bad- the universe doesnt distinguish. The time is NOW; CLARITY= ACTION. Make it a HABIT to “VISION” your goals-see them, touch them, be them and un can not possible hace anye result accept success- as longs as you have Gradtitude…and eliminate those “mindfreaks”we tell our selfs. good luck- great day…

Vicki B March 15, 2008 at 10:40 am

I’m a very up beat positive person, I’m the person others look to for a smile, a hug and a hello. but on the marriage side, my husband is not ( post traumatic stress) and it’s pulling at me every evening returning home from work/weekends.

Timoteo Arao March 16, 2008 at 4:54 am

Now things have changed.I make my wife to laugh and smile whenever we look at each other.I have always a surprising word to cheer her. When I talk to people in the classrooms, meetings or audiences they enjoy listening to me.It is a big transformation.NOW wherever I am celebrating or gathering I have to be ready to say something.THREE times within one week they surprised me asking me to say something. Thanks God I said something worthy remembering.Because of that I decide always to be prepared when there is a gathering or the need to say something. Mike,Thank you very much indeed.

Hi Mike,
It’s always soooooo nice to read your blog…THANK YOU.
You have inspired me to become a counsellor. I have to admit that indeed i do have negative thoughts… especially when money is involved… but my positive ones are many more so i try to brush away any negative thought and replace it with a positive.
Thanks a million for your wonder words!

Mike,

Another great post.

A lot of the thoughts can also come from the people we surround ourselves with.

With the percentage of people who don’t even read or listen to anything uplifting, it’s easy to see how this can happen.

One of the great things about the Internet is that you can instantly jump into groups with the same mindset and instantly get together with people who can lift you up and help keep you motivated.

Much like the people who leave comments on your blog.

Keep up the good work Mike.

You are great, Mike. I love to read your words. I do not have low self-esteem. I try to fight breast cancer. My daughter died from it. I wrote ‘Days of Goodbyes’, Maria’s story which is also the story of thousands of other young women: the desperate struggle to survive breast Cancer. Will you go to http://www.DaysofGoodbyes.com and then tell me that you will be my partner and announce to your subscribers that it will be sold on Amazon.com on April 3rd and that every penny will go to Silent Spring Institute, dedicated to identifying – and changing-links between the environment and cancer. Please answer me at munck@wwc.com and I will send you a whole article. Love…Ragnhild
