They Did It

by Mike Litman

I said to myself. “How many of them thought they’d end up here.”

“Mike, fill me in.”

You got it amigo, let’s go.

Last night, I was watching the Oscars, with 1 billion other
people around the world.

Some of the stories of the winners and nominees are just
incredible. Inspiring.

As I watched men and woman, young and old approach the stage
to get their awards, it had me thinking.

Here’s what many of them, winners and nominees, had in
common:

Someone in their past didn’t believe in them
Someone in their past, said “You could never make a career of this.”
Sometime in their past, they got on stage and froze
Sometime in their past, they said “No.” to a great opportunity because fear had them in its claws
Sometime in their past they didn’t get a role they really wanted
Sometime in their past a movie they were in bombed
Sometime in their past, the phone stopped ringing with movie offers

Sometime in their past they had a choice.

They thought to themselves, “Should I wait until “I’d be perfect
on stage” or should I just audition and GET MY DREAM GOING.

What if these talented men and woman waited until they were a
‘perfect actor’ before they started.

Would we know their names today?

How much joy would have been stolen from the millions of
moviegoers who’ve enjoyed their work?

How would they feel today if all that POTENTIAL they had
still laid dormant within?

You, I, We. We’ve been given gifts. Talents, abilities,
strengths.

Which will be greater?

The amount of your potential you cultivate, develop and share
in your life.

Or

The amount of your potential that’s buried with you.

Your past taught you perfection.

Today, join hundreds of wonderful actors and actresses who
realized that they didn’t have to get it right, they just had
to get it going.

Last night, 1 billion people around the world sat around
their TV’s and celebrated the life’s work of 250 people. Imagine
that. 1 billion people celebrating 250 people or so.

They didn’t wait to get it right. They just got their acting
career going. Wow, now look where they are.

Get it going amigo. Keep it going.

Love Ya! You’re The Best!

Your Coach,

Michael

Hi Mike,

Wow! Your P.S. really resonated with me: “In life, go where you’re celebrated, not where you’re tolerated.” Such great advice. Thanks!

Alexandros February 25, 2008 at 10:01 am

Mike,
Just few hours ago, I was working on to my user’s instruction sheet, correcting once more some past mistakes and adding up some new touches, prior releasing it.
You know what, I was smiling remebering you.
“Dont try to get it right. Just going on and on and on.”

Thanks Mike. Keep going on and on ….

Your so right Michael.

Faith and Fear are so similar.

Faith is the hope that somthing will happen that hasn’t.

Fear is worrying about sonthing that hasn’t happened.

Mike-you seem to have inpecable timing with your blog info! I look forward to your emails as they are butt- kicking at seemingly the correct time. I have set some goals this past weekend that are going to put me in the right place in the future, and my motivation comes from one source- ME! Thanks for the words-

Mike,

Excellent point. I believe it is when our “Why” makes us cry that we then choose to either persue the dream; in spite of the nay-sayers or cower down to them and quit. It’s important to have a good mentor and coach like yourself. It’s our role to remain teachable. To take action to get it done and follow through.

Thanks!

Hey Mike i think the most important think in life is to have a positive mindset and taking deliberate action. This just about sums it all up and is a part of “The Secret” made famous by the author Rhonda Byrne.

Hey Mike!

I just finished watching it and Bourne Ultimatum kicked some butt eh?!

I think no other actor fits the description better than Sylvester Stallone. He burned all the bridges behind him and went for the acting career even after his wife left him and he had no more money to survive.

That was when Rocky was born. You’ve got to watch this truly inspirational video of Anthony Robbins telling Sly’s story:

http://www.asksaiful.com/2008/01/03/something-inspiring-you-might-not-know-about-rocky/

Sly wrote down all the comments of the people who said Rocky would be a flop and read it the night he won the Oscars.

Amazing!

Hey Mike, Would writing a book count as “they did it” knowing once there were those who told me I would not do it. It wouldn’t come to nothing. Well my book hits the book stores March 15 2008 and another in October. I can say to them “what you all thought that could not happen it has” keep up the motivational tool in getting some of us on track.

Mike,

Since I made the decision to get it going before I got it right…I decided to publish my motivational website http://www.marshajohnson.net to pursue my love of speaking. I have had two speaking engagements and my average money per hour is $325! I am making more in one hour than I was making in an entire week!

Thanks,

Great Points, Mike.

On top of those statements they also made it a point to do it for themselves as well.

When you do things for your happiness and not just to please others you tend to live a little happier life.

Also one of my favorite quotes is “Whatever can given to you, can be taken away.” So when you look for circumstances outside of yourself to make you happy, that happiness can be taken away.

The people who step out in spite of the critics make huge gains while those who wait for the approval others tend to live a life of mediocrity.

AMEN! Every person who walked across that stage has a gift for each of us..inspiration and proof that dreams do come true! Thanks, Mike, for suggesting that we stop and think about what they’d been through to get there..they are human, just like us!

Robbie Mac February 25, 2008 at 3:49 pm

Mike, when you’re right…you’re right! Thanks buddy for this “enlightening realization”!! How true…I count several well known celebrities as past friends, yet I was way too intimidated when I initially met them to talk at great length about the challenges of their successful arriving, rather opting to discuss commercial vs. independent films when I was in their company!

This is huge wake up call man!

Cheers,

Wow! I have been struggling with my own need for perfection — working on getting a new e-book on line. On Sunday, I decided I did not have to get it perfect, and decided furthermore to take a couple of days off — just walk away from it. Tomorrow I will begin again, and hopefully launch by the weekend. Not perfect, but my own effort done in my own way — the best I know how at this point in my life. and that is the best I can provide. Releasing perfection is the key to so many life issues. Thank you for the reminder!

Thanks for that, its amazing how many people watch the
The Oscars. I knew Halle Berry when she was starting out.
She used to tell me she wanted to be a singer. I told her I was going to be an actor. Now she is the actor and Im the singer. lol.
I was cheering when she won a few years ago.
Keep up the good work and follow your dreams!

Hey Mike. My book poemcrazy: freeing your life with words (Random House) is in a 20th printing. When I was working on it many agents said there was no market for a book abut writing poems…. persistence is what got me through. Now my book Foolsgold: Making Something from Nothing is out, and I’m working on a book about love. Mick Jaggers mom wanted him to be a bricklayer. Bill Cosby’s mother told him to “be practical” when he said he wanted to be a comedian….

And this is why I have a few issues of my newsletter up now, and why Game of Love I:Regency Ball (interactive text adventure) will go up this year, and not five years from now. I would love make it all pretty with live action scenes, etc.–but I want people to see it sooner than that.

Thanks for the blog!
