“Mike, share with me a recent insight that can help me improve
my life and business.”
Amigo, you got it.
Grab a favorite beverage and let’s go…
Open the newspaper or put on the TV for 15 minutes.
At least 3 times a week you see ‘classic’ American companies
layoff off thousands of people. You see this from Citigroup,
GM, and dozens of others.
This isn’t going to stop. Not at all.
And I fear that when most people look at the calendar they
see 2008, though if you looked inside their mind you’d see
1988.
“Mike, you have my attention, tell me more.”
For most people, and this USED TO BE ME, the world they think
they live in left the building a decade ago.
It did.
***You need to be building and learning how to be a 2010
entrepreneur.
To succeed in today’s marketplace, you MUST change your
paradigm.
You must change the way you see the world and what’s possible
for you.
The opportunities for entrepreneurs have never been greater
then they are today.
Though there’s a big IF.
The ‘IF’ is you must have the SIGHT.
If you bring 1988 employee thinking to your entrepreneurial
business today, you’re toast.
SIGHT precedes entrepreneurial riches.
Tips to help you become a 2010 entrepreneur and ditch the
1988 mindset:
1) Books: I highly suggest you read or listen to the audio
for the book, ‘The World Is Flat’ by Thomas Friedman. It’s
not a small book, though it’s a very important book. Read 10
pages a day. This will help you gain a 2010 winning business
mindset.
2) Magazines: Read Fast Company, Inc., Business Week, and
Fortune as much as you can.
Read it and write down words you don’t fully understand. Then
go to google.com and type definition: (word), you’ll learn
what it means in 3 minutes.
3) Vocabulary - This is one of my business secrets. I
accelerate my income by learning new business words. You
can’t get to another level of business success without the
words that go with it.
Remember, every level of income DEMANDS a different you.
You should be learning 2 new business words a week.
4) People - This is the age of collaboration, trust, and
people. In my opinion, it’s never been more important to read
Dale Carnegie’s ‘How to win friends and influence people’.
(Read 2 or 3 times a year, or just read your underlines in
the book.)
People skill is one of the most important skills of the new
economy.
Invest in a PocketPC or Smartphone with a good contact
manager. Meet people, and then type it in so you don’t
forget. Then follow up with them often and ALWAYS lead with
“How can I help you?” (More on this in future blog posts)
Be a walking, talking resource for others.
Get on Facebook and build your online network.
5) Strengths - 2010 is about focusing and developing the 2/3
things you’re good at and smartsourcing the rest (more on
smartsourcing in future blog post)
Stop doing things you’re not good at and start having others
do it.
The rich all know this.
Now, anyone can outsource functions very affordably.
6) Think lifestyle - 2010 is all about the mobile, digital
entrepreneur.
Set your business up to give you MAXIMUM life.
It’s easier then you think.
7) Get an Ipod - I love my ipod, here’s why. I can pay
$10-$15 for a personal development/business audio on
Itunes.com and be learning from it 5 minutes later.
The 2010 is about SPEED. Speed in personal growth and speed
in growing your business.
Too many entrepreneurs are failing because they’re walking
around with a 1988 mindset.
How boring.
The 2010 economy is so exciting.
Every day/week new ways to improve yourself and help your
clients are launched.
I care about your success. You care about success.
Last tip for today.

learn, grow, enjoy, and build.
