This 'Success Insight' Makes So Much Sense

I was watching the New England Patriots vs the Pittsburg Steelers football game this past weekend and heard something very interesting.

What I heard is so important to your success that I want to share it with you.

Let me give you some background info and then we'll move forward.

The New England Patriots have been one of the most successful football teams in the last decade, having won 2 Super Bowls.

This game was so important because the winner moves onto the Super Bowl in 2 weeks.

Here's what happened.

The score at halftime was 24-3 . New England was winning and dominating the game.

How easy would it have been for the players to start thinking about the Super Bowl?

How easy would it have been for the players to come out 'flat' in the 2nd half, to stop playing hard, thinking they’d already won? This happens so many times to teams in this situation.

When the 2nd half was about to start, the announcer commented on what the New England coach had said to his players at halftime.

When I heard this, I wrote it down.

Here's what the 2-time Super Bowl Champion coach said to his players during halftime when they were winning 24-3.

Write this down.

He said, "Concentrate on the next play."

Let me say that again, "Concentrate on the next play."

"Mike, how does that relate to me?"

So many people out there that are trying to improve their lives are focusing on goals so far ahead of them and never accomplishing them.

They’re focusing on 20 plays later.

So what happens is this:

Fear comes in.

Challenges come in and most people quit.

Here's what I do:

I focus on my next action step.

I make my goals smaller.

I go faster by going 'slower'.

I gather momentum.

I "concentrate on the next play".

Do you see any reason why you shouldn't 'buy in' to this philosophy?

The New England Patriots are playing next week for their 3rd Super Bowl ring in less than a decade.

Their coach who gave them this advice is arguably one of the top 5 coaches of all time.

***Concentrate on your next play.

Focus on it.

Accomplish it.

This advice works, if you work it.

Do You Make This Success Mistake?

This success mistake has cost me so much money that I'm almost embarrassed to tell you.

"So Mike, why are you telling me?"

Because I know that if you can steer away from this success mistake, it can help you improve your income and change your life. That's my goal.

Here's how this came about:

Yesterday, I was reading a book about investing from the very successful money manager Peter Lynch.

Even though he was talking about 'investing', he zeroed in on a success principle that so many people miss.

I did…for 7+ years and it cost me a fortune.

And it caused me a bunch of stress.

What's so interesting is that Warren Buffett used this same success insight to become the 2nd richest person in the world.

Here's the deal:

I used to be so 'short-sighted' and wanted immediate gratification.

If my new 'business idea' didn't work out in 30-60 days, I quit.

Then I'd try something else and, after a week, I went onto something else.

This downward spiral happened for a while because I was 'ruled' by a short-term vision and the desire for immediate gratification.

This is how 98% of the world operates.

THIS is why only 2% of the world live their dreams.

Here's what Peter Lynch was saying and what Warren Buffet knows.

Also, Michael Dell knows this, Bill Gates, Donald Trump, Oprah and others all know this.

***One of the biggest 'secrets' to success is taking the LONG-TERM VIEW.

(Let me say that again)

***One of the biggest 'secrets' to success is taking the LONG-TERM VIEW.

When Warren Buffett makes an investment, he's looking 5-15 yrs out, sometimes more.

All great entrepreneurs understand that in order to WIN BIG they must take the long-term view.

3-years, 5-years, 15-years, 20-years+.

You need to give yourself time for your idea or business to grow.

Most people never do this - it's unfortunate. AND…it's also never too late to start.

You need to EXPAND your horizon.

Change your perspective.

You need to take the NEXT STEP today and keep in mind your long-term view. Not necessarily a specific long term goal, but a longer term VIEW.

There's a season for everything.

Take the time to plant the seeds, water them, and be patient for your harvest.

Stay disciplined.

I know you can do it.

How This Billionaire Became Successful

Last night at about 11:20 pm I picked up a book that I originally read 8 months ago and started re-reading it.

When I turned to page 52, a paragraph JUMPED out at me and I wanted to share it with you because it could help you as well.

Personally, I love reading business biographies because they help you SEE the journey of an entrepreneur and they EXPAND YOUR VISION on what's possible.

This book I was reading was written by a billionaire and he echo's exactly what I've been talking to you about. Michael Bloomberg is not only the Mayor of New York City right now, but he's an incredible entrepreneur and a BILLIONAIRE.

From page 52 (paperback) in his book 'Bloomberg By Bloomberg':

"We made mistakes, of course. Most of them were omissions we didn't think of when we initially wrote the software. We fixed them by doing it over and over, again and again. We do the same today. While our competitors are still sucking their thumbs trying to make the design perfect, we're already on prototype version No. 5.

By the time our rivals are ready with wires and screws, we are on version No. 10. It gets back to planning versus acting. We act from day one; others plan how to plan - for months."

This is EXACTLY what I've been telling you is a HUGE key to your success. What Billionaire Michael Bloomberg is talking about is the success principle:

YOU don't have to get it right, YOU just have to get it going.

(read it again)

For 7 years I was a mess.

I had to make sure everything was 'perfect'.

I was a paycheck away from not paying my rent.

Then everything changed and, at 31 years old, I'm now financially free.

Why?

Because I live this success principle and YOU must as well.

***YOU don't have to get it right, YOU just have to get it going.

You should say this to yourself.

"I don't have to get it right, I just have to get it going."

Michael Bloomberg has become a billionaire and the cornerstone of his success is this powerful principle.

JUMP up and take the NEXT step in your success journey.

It's time to make YOUR move.

Have a great weekend and talk to you soon.

My Secret To Achieving Goals

Hope you're doing AWESOME and January is starting off GREAT for you!

I just got back from a seminar I spoke at in Texas this weekend and I want to share with you a 'theme' I heard from 3 coaching clients I was able to get together with there.

What was so interesting to me is that ALL 3 of them said the EXACT same thing to me.

Let me make this point and then, right after, show you a powerful and SIMPLE success principle.

For a 7-year period, when I was 19 to 26 yrs old, I made 'succeeding' so tough.

I was scattered.

I was a procrastinator.

I tried to generate $10,000 a month before I ever made $5,000.

I tried to generate $1,000,000 before I ever earned $100,000.

I was trying to reach my goals, but never to pay my dues.

I had a ton of ideas, but no results.

I was going backwards faster than the famous track athlete Carl Lewis runs. It wasn't pretty.

But then things started to change.

Just like they have for these 3 coaching clients I met with at the seminar this weekend in Texas.

We've helped these 3 individuals change their lives and income - and let me share with you this one point we've held them ACCOUNTABLE on.

This ONE point I used to transform my finances and I STILL use it today.

Here's the 'principle':

Ready?

MAKE your GOALS smaller.

"What Mike?"

Yes, you can have a big vision, but make your goals smaller.

"Can you explain Mike?"

Yes.

When I was making $5,000 a month, my goal next month was $6,500.

When I was making $12,000, my next month's goal was $14,000.

And on and on.

The seminar I was at had about 500 people. I asked them: how many people set big goals and still weren't where they wanted to be?

95% of the room raised their hands.

These 3 coaching clients I met with at the seminar all have MOMENTUM.

That's what happens when you have PROGRESS and you reach your goals.

Take a deep breath and take ONE step at a time.

Success is counterintuitive.

Sometimes to go faster, you need to go slower.

I bet if you make your goals 50% smaller, you'll have 100% more results. (we talk about this point in Greatness University this month)

This is your year. Try this for 60 days and watch what happens.

Here are the results for these 3 coaching clients.

Two have doubled their income.

One’s income is up 25%.

All three have seen their confidence and happiness skyrocket.

2005 is your year to unleash YOUR greatness!

What Google Can Teach Us About Success

I hope you had a TREMENDOUS and HEALTHY New Year!

Let's roll up our sleeves, you in?

Awesome, let’s make 2005 an EXTRAORDINARY year!

Let me share with you something that I found so interesting.

It was last night (Sunday night).

I was watching the football games during the day on CBS and saw the promo for their show 60 Minutes later that night.

I love hearing about success stories so I was excited when they said they would be doing a feature on the SUCCESS of GOOGLE.

I just finished dinner and the segment was about to start so I went over to the TV.

The reporter was interviewing the 2 founders, they showed the company headquarters, and THEN they brought up something where I said BINGO.

Here's what caught my attention.

For 7+ years I was going nowhere. I had all the ideas in the world, but never did anything with them.

I procrastinated (a ton).

Fear was holding me back.

I was scattered.

(This wasn't a fun time in my life.)

But, THEN things began to change BECAUSE of this ONE SUCCESS Principle.

And this is the same SUCCESS PRINCIPLE that has helped Google soar.

Paraphrasing 60 minutes (the TV Show) last night.

Google Founders:

"Everything we do we start in BETA (BETA means a test). For all our projects, we just get it out there, get it going, where it's at a 'C' level and then we get feedback on what people like, don't like, and then we go from there."

Here's what Google was really saying and here's the success principle that changed my life.

"YOU don't have to get it right, you just have to get it going."
(Read this again.)

I used to wait until everything was perfect and fear stared at me and I didn't move.

This was for 7+ years.

But then I decided to JUST GET GOING.

Think about it this way.

In school, we get graded, A, B, C and D.

When my ideas are at a ‘C’, I get it GOING!

Then, I learn what people like/dislike and I improve it.

It sounds so simple, but most people have 10 pounds of cement holding their ideas hostage.

Successful entrepreneurs get going!

It's the only way to TRULY get wisdom and experience.

Ask yourself this question:

What have I been putting off, procrastinating about, that I can just get going today?

This could mean a phone call, a website, a flyer at the local grocery store.

ANYTHING.

Let's get it going because this is going to be YOUR year and I'm excited to help you live your dreams.

Talk to you soon.
